Peters Township Middle School Asst. Principal Earns Top Title in the Nation

McMurray, PA - Mary Monsour, Assistant Principal at Peters Township Middle School, was named the 2004 McDonald's/National Association of Secondary Principals (NASSP) National Assistant Principal of the Year. She was selected as Pennsylvania's Assistant Principal of the Year a few weeks ago and was one of only three finalists for the national title.

Monsour was awarded the national title based on her ability to involve the community in the life of the school, awareness of current and emerging educational issues, and success in improving the school's learning environment. Among her many accomplishments, Monsour created and implemented a program called Hot Shots that helps kids with their homework and a teacher induction program that pairs new teachers with veteran faculty.

Monsour has been with PTSD for six years. She received her undergraduate degree from Carlow College and her Masters' in Education from Duquesne University. She is now seeking her doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.

Monsour was selected from 52 candidates for the State title and from three finalists for the National title. She received $1,000 for her State title and $5,000 for her national title. She was also presented with a crystal trophy.

Monsour is a resident of Bethel Park where she resides with her husband, William. The couple has three children, Shauna, 33, Matthew, 21, and Melissa, 29.
