Differentiated Instruction

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Federal Law, require teachers to meet the diverse needs of all students in their respective classrooms. This can be a challenging task for administrators and teachers. Differentiated instruction, the proactive use of a wide range of curricular and instructional approaches utilized within the general education environment is one of the best options available to today's educator. Teachers are encouraged to focus on not only the lesson content, but also the process in which students take in and apply knowledge and, the product that reflects what students have learned. Differentiated Instruction includes research-based instructional approaches that are rigorous, relevant, flexible, varied, and based on continuous assessment of student progress.
