Educational Campus at East Franklin
The IU1 Educational Campus at East Franklin provides a safe, orderly environment where all students can acquire and apply the knowledge and skills to become productive, responsible citizens, able to compete within a global economy.
The IU1 Educational Campus at East Franklin provides education and related services to students in grades K-12 who are in need of highly supportive and comprehensive special education services that are not available in the public school setting. Each classroom is supported educationally and emotionally by a paraprofessional and social worker.
Full Day Program
Students attend the all day programs; five days a week; 180 days per year.
Autistic Support Services
Autistic Support Services offers students in grades K-5, a highly structured environment with emphasis on speech and language development and social skills training. These are essential skills for children afflicted by autism who often have difficulty interpreting body language, interacting with others, and changing routines. The program encourages development of independent learners capable of communicating and problem-solving.
Therapeutic Emotional Support
East Franklin offers separate Therapeutic Emotional Support (TES) programs for students at the elementary and secondary levels who meet criteria for emotional disturbance but also need the individual and group therapy. An individual Behavior Intervention Plan is created for each child. TES programs offer highly structured classroom environments with emphasis on positive behavior interventions. A child psychiatrist serves as consultant and manages students' medication.
Partial Hospitalization
The Waynesburg children and adolescent partial hospitalization programs at East Franklin School are run by the Centerville Clinics, Inc. and licensed by the PA Department of Public Welfare. The partial programs service students K-12 whose emotional and behavioral problems inhibit their ability to be successful in a community school setting.
Partial program has four classes: elementary, middle school, high school, and an adolescent MH/MR classroom. Each classroom can have a maximum of the twelve students and are staffed with a teacher, paraprofessional, and a therapist. All educational services are provided by the IU1.
The partial program is mental health placement based on medical necessity; all students must have an Axis I affective diagnosis as well as a recommendation from a psychiatrist to be admitted into the program. The program is designed for students who need a higher level of mental health treatment than can be provided on an outpatient basis but is not as intense as inpatient hospitalization.
Students will participate in a therapeutic milieu where they receive three therapeutic groups daily and as much individual therapy as needed; family counseling is also available. Dr. Richard Dyer, child psychiatrist, who is on-site two days a week, oversees treatment.
Life Skills Support
The Life Skills Support Program (LSS) at East Franklin serves students who have intellectual abilities that prevent them from obtaining meaningful progress in a general education curriculum. The LSS program emphasizes functional academics, communication skills, self-help, social self-advocacy, vocational and community living skills with community-based instructions in real-life situations.
An IU1 Program
As an IU1 program, East Franklin is afforded the benefits of all the services and programs offered by IU1 such as:
