Annie Sullivan Award
Great emphasis has been focused on providing a more natural environment in the school and community for individuals with disabilities. The Anne Sullivan Award is sponsored by the Intermediate Unit Public Relations Consortium and the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units and recognizes special educators for facilitating acceptance of students with disabilities in schools and communities. The award is named after Helen Keller's teacher and is presented to the teacher and paraprofessional who are nominated by their peers in each participating Intermediate Unit.
Nomination Information and Form
The published criteria specified five specific areas on which the nominees are to be rated. The criteria are:
- Exemplifies caring involvement with students with disabilities.
- Helps others in the schools to understand and accept students with disabilities.
- Helps others in the community to understand individuals with disabilities.
- Participation in organizations that promote acceptance of individuals with disabilities.
- Working with students in extra curricular activities.
