2002 Annie Sullivan Award Winner: Lorraine Rush


The recipient of the Annie Sullivan Award for Support Staff attempts to do things for all students not just those in her classroom. She is described by those who nominated her as a wonderful, loving and caring person who tries to help wherever there is a need.

She helps students get jobs in the community and goes throughout the community seeking donations for class projects for all students. During this past school year she assisted in coordinating a Day of Patriotism at the East Franklin School in Waynesburg. On this occasion Representative Mascara presented the staff at East Franklin with a flag which was flown over the capitol.

She assists the classroom teacher with transition activities for the Secondary Life Skills Class at Central Greene High School. During the work day she serves as a liaison between school and work. She works closely with the classroom teacher assisting in planning work activities for the students in the Life Skills class. Some of her responsibilities in which she has excelled include:

Locations which have been training sites for the students in the Life Skills class include: Pizza Outlet, Fashion Bug, Sheets, Beverly Health Care, City Mission, Golden Corral, Child Alert class at East Franklin, clerical work for the special education teachers at East Franklin, the Moose and other locations within Greene County.

She is active in Special Olympics and in the Waynesburg Community where she currently serves as Grant Regent of the local Moose Chapter. She resides in Waynesburg with her husband, Chuck, who is present today accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. King.

I present this year's recipient of the Annie Sullivan Award for Support Staff to, Lorraine Rush, teacher-aide in the Life Skills Support program at Central Greene High School.
